Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I swallowed a fish bone and it got stuck in my throat. I tried every method possible including bread with peanut butter, marshmallows, water with salt, almonds, and soda but I still have a fairly sharp pain in the throat. I went to the ER and they told me nothing shows up in my X-Rays, however I still have pain. What should I do?
The pain is due to the residual effect of the fishbone on the throat. If the bone is not shown on x-ray then this means that it must have passed on through the esophagus into the stomach.
It can take a few days to a week for the feeling to resolve. Using an anti-inflammatory agent such as naproxen or Cataflam or ibuprofen would help to decrease the discomfort. Avoid hard foods for a few days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
General & Family Physician
